What's the IN business for this year?

Let's face it! The Philippine economy and the world financial status aren't that good right now. There are a lot of jobs being cut-off, the economy in every country is in recession, dollar markets are not that good anymore, and companies are shutting down here and there. So, what's next? Come to think of it, we all have our poverty deadline, right?

In these times of struggling economy, quitting your job isn't a good idea, really. But having another job or business is a good thing. It can help your financial status more stable, and perhaps, more secure in the long run. A lot of feng shui experts say, especially when new year comes, that the start of the year is always a good start to have your own business. I do agree in some parts, because a new year signifies a new start, and starting your own business gives a positive vibration.

Now, really, if you are trying to think of what kind of business is IN for this Year of the Ox, 2009, think no more. Below are some general business ideas that you can establish not only for 2009, but for the succeeding years as well. I always believe that these business ideas would always become successful whatever the economic status would be and whenever possible. I also pointed some pros and cons. I hope they can help you get some business ideas. And oh, my list is based on logical and practical observations, just a reminder for everyone. :D

What's the IN business for this year?
Here are my list of the IN business for this year that will make your financial status more stable:

• Food Business. Everybody loves to eat, now that's a fact! If you really want to have a business to be established, investing on a food business (beverages, fast food, snacks) gives a good kick of money making. Food business always have a 100% return of investment, otherwise, you cannot survive having one. The only problems that you may encounter while having your food business are the continuous increase of petroleum and sanitation. Food business will always have a competitor, so choosing your market (age difference, male or female, etc.) carefully can make or break your business.

• Clothing Business. Investing on a t-shirts with unique designs, or perhaps gowns, or trendy dresses for retail or wholesale would be a great idea for business. People wear clothes everyday, again, that's a fact, and because the Philippines is in a tropical country, t-shirts are always an IN for business. Nobody in the Philippines likes to wear furred or thick clothes. Comfortable and stylish clothes are one good combination. The only problem that you may encounter on this business are the competitors who are selling more beautiful designs, sometimes the price tag is not a factor. But of course, if you want to survive on this business, always update your designs and having an affordable or reasonable price tag would be a plus!

• Health and Wellness. People are now more cautious on their health, so why not establish a health and wellness business. Be a local distributor of those food supplement pills being advertised on TV, or perhaps have a buy and sell business of exercise machine products. You can also be a distributor of beauty products, or perhaps establish your own wellness spa. Because of economic downfall, some people tend to become depressed or tired for working on shifts or for having two jobs at the same time. Beauty products can uplift moods and regenerate self-esteem while wellness spas can refresh the body, ready for another week of work. Again, competitors are always on the lookout for something unique, so better update your knowledge on these things and have a regular customer as well.

Housing business or anything that focuses on housing projects such construction materials, or be a house agent could be a possible candidate for business, but if you can see the point, people are trying NOT to spend too much on things with redundancy. For example, if they are living with parents or in an ancestral house, buying another land or house property is not really an option. Reconstruction or house renovation is the correct term to use to save money. If you're savings are really that high, this could be the time that you buy a house property. For the meantime, just live with your parents and help them pay the bills. Hehehe.

Another would be business that can be established are IT business or anything about computers, gadgets, cellphones, gaming consoles, etc. But then again, as I said before, people are trying NOT to spend their money to much on anything with what they already have. Cellphones can be updated for three to five years; computers can be fixed or upgraded; gadgets? do you really need those stuffs; gaming consoles, only for killing time. So, before entering into this kind of business, just think deeply, will there be someone out there buy those things? Maybe, maybe not. Businesses are just predictable... who knows?

So there, my business ideas not only for the year 2009 but for the next coming years ahead!!! Just remember to assess, account, check and weigh everything before venturing yourself into a business. Knowing where to put your hard-earned money investment is the key to success. And oh, always remember NOT to buy unnecessary stuffs and focus only the essentials of your soon-to-be business.

For some tips on how to start a small business, you may click here. If you are looking for another job, you may click here to find out if there is one fit for you. Thanks again for reading. :D

Macs are hit by malware attack!

Mac users out there... beware.. especially when using BitTorrent. It is reportedly said that 20,000 machines had been infected and still counting as of January 21 and is described as "serious, and users may face extremely serious consequences".

The iServices.A Trojan horse is an attack being distributed via BitTorrent, where it's disguised as a bootleg copy of the new iWork 09. Once installed, the malware takes administrator access and connects to remote servers over the Internet, where it can be given additional instructions as the author commands, from installing additional malware to stealing information off the Mac in question. The malware creator can also take complete remote control of any compromised machine. (Source.)

It is advised not to download pirated softwares, which really makes sense, and always update anti-virus softwares!

May Bukas Pa lyrics

Huwag damdamin ang kasawian
May bukas pa sa iyong buhay
Sisikat din ang iyong araw
Ang landas mo ay mag-iilaw

Sa daigdig ang buhay ay ganyan
Mayroong ligaya at lumbay
Maghintay at may nakalaang bukas

Mayroong ligaya at lumbay
Maghintay at may nakalaang bukas

May bukas pa sa iyong buhay
Tutulungan ka ng Diyos na may lalang

McDonalds Philippines "First Love" Commercial!

I'm so loving it! Apparently, this newest television commercial (TVC) from McDonalds Philippines is creating a buzz on the Internet for its very touching scene where the narrator of the TVC stated that, "Kahit hindi rin kami naging sa huli... siya pa rin ang first love ko... ["Even if in the end we ended up not being together... she (pertaining to the narrator's girl friend, or it, as pertaining to McDonalds) is still my first love..."] Below is the said touching television commercial from McDonalds Philippines.

Juan Luna House, Ilocos Norte Trip!

The Ilocos Trip series saga that I had last year is still incomplete. What is traveling to Ilocos Region without ever visiting Ilocos Norte? If you are reading all of my Ilocos Tour Trip experience (all of them can be found here...) I only tackled Ilocos Sur. So for today, let us now go further north where the sun is hotter but beautiful places and sceneries are up for grabs — the Ilocos Norte!

And for our first feature of the Ilocos Norte, I present to you the house of a great Filipino painter, Juan Luna (yeah.. the statue is him!). Take a glimpse of Juan Luna's house in this one-of-a-kind picture trail tour of the Ilocos Norte! I hope you'll enjoy all of the pictures that I had taken! Hehehe...

Ilocos Norte is known as the province where the late president Ferdinand Marcos lived. It is composed of many historical churches and other landmarks where the UNESCO Heritage marks are posted. A colorful history awaits you when you travel there either by land, sea or air. But it is best that you travel on land with a tour guide to keep you posted and to educate you more about the different places.

• Juan Luna's house in Ilocos Norte is known as the birthplace of the famous painter. It is composed of different antique furniture and items that lives with the house's history such as...

• Visitors' lounge located at the second floor.

• Juan Luna's original bed.

• A church-like altar with real antique religious idols located on the second floor!

• A hat and coat hanger.

• The replicas of Juan Luna's paintings with an antique lampshade mounted on the wall.

Because of these and other antique items, including the house itself, Juan Luna's birthplace ancestral home is being maintained by the city government of Ilocos Norte for historical, cultural and educational purposes.

and so it reads:
Birthplace
of
Juan Luna Y Novicio

Patriot and foremost Filipino painter. Born in Badoc, Ilocos Norte, 24 October 1857; son of Joaquin Luna de San Pedro and Laureana Novicio. Studied in the Ateneo Municipal, Escuela de Bellas Artes and Escuela Nautica in Manila; became a licensed pilot at 17. Pupil of Lorenzo Guerrero, noted Filipino painter. Went to Spain, 1877, studied in the Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, Madrid. Painted in Rome his first famous work, "The Death of Cleopatra". Won gold medal for his Spoliarium at the International Painting Exposition, 1884, in Madrid. Won other medals and honors in Europe. Among his other notable paintings were "The Battle of Lepanto", "The Blood Compact", "People and Kings". Co-worker of Rizal, Lopez-Jaena, del Pilar and other Filipino reformers in Europe; was in the diplomatic service of the First Philippine republic. Died in Hongkong, 7 December 1899.

And so there. Some of my adventure pictures taken from Juan Luna's house. There are more to come... because the Ilocos Norte is known for their churches, I will post some of the church photos that I had taken as we travel Ilocos Norte. Better wait for that soon! Hehehe... thanks for visiting! :D

New categories on TYC presented! Yay!

This post is just a reminder to everyone that I have included three more categories here on my blog as I promised. Hehehe. So, aside from the usual 8 categories, there are now 11 of them to choose from. The additional three categories are just a re-categorized past articles, but of course, there will be some new entries to follow in the coming days of the year. Hehehe. Rest assured, I will be putting interesting blog articles. The description of the new categories are as follows:

Presenting the new categories on TYC!

HEALTHY LIVING. I usually find it too awkward to discuss on being healthy because, I, myself has a problem on this. But because I am trying to have a healthy lifestyle, I will focus this particular category on things like health news, or some tips on losing some weight. Yeah. Most probably. I am trying to involve myself to lose some. Hahaha.

MONEY MATTERS. You want money? Guess what? Me too! So, together, maybe we cant focus on making some. Hehehe. In this category, making money online, logical means of making money, practical ways on saving up and everything about money, are just some of the topics that will be discussed under here. But of course, money isn't about everything! It is just a medium. Naks!

WEB WATCHING. And so, this is the category place that you will go to here on TYC if you want to read about the coolest websites in town! Yep! This category focuses on websites that I already featured in the past and soon I will be featuring some more! Hahaha... There are a lot of websites out there that needs to be recognized, and the only way for them to be recognized is for someone who can feature them on their blog or websites, just like mine. lols.

Aside from the three new categories, I re-categorized some of my entries as well. You can find some of them having 2-3 categories under its title. Isn't that a great move? Hehehe... It's now easier to browse the different categories and the previous articles that I have written. I wanted a random article generator for my blog to feature some of my best read and past blog articles. But because I cannot create one sooner (I hope I can make a program on that!), putting up some new categories is the best I can think of right now! Enjoy browsing!

(For more category descriptions, you may want to click here or click my about page above. Thank you for reading! :D)

Why God created children (and grandchildren too!)?

Yesterday, I once again fulfilled my day of browsing to my old emails. I found this funny side of the story on the Creation of Adam and Eve that answers the question, "Why God created children (and grandchildren too!)?" Intriguing, isn't it? Hahahha... Here's what the email has to say in the introduction:

To those of us who have children in our lives, whether they are our own, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or students... here is something to make you chuckle. Whenever your children are out of control, you can take comfort from the thought that even God's omnipotence did not extend to His own children.

And now to continue with the story... Hahahha :P

After creating heaven and earth, God created Adam and Eve. And the first thing he said was "DON'T!"

"Don't what?" Adam replied.

"Don't eat the forbidden fruit." God said.

"Forbidden fruit? We have forbidden fruit? Hey Eve..we have forbidden fruit!!!!!"

"No Way!"

"Yes way!"

"Do NOT eat the fruit!" said God.

"Why?" asked the two.

"Because I am your Father and I said so!" God replied, wondering why He hadn't stopped creation after making the elephants. A few minutes later, God saw His children having an apple break and He was ticked! "Didn't I tell you not to eat the fruit?" God asked.

"Uh huh," Adam replied.

"Then why did you?" said the Father.

"I don't know," said Eve.

"She started it!" Adam said.

"Did not!"

"Did too!"

"DID NOT!"

Having had it with the two of them, God's punishment was that Adam and Eve should have children of their own. Thus the pattern was set and it has never changed.

So there goes the legend why children and grandchildren were created! Hahahha... BUT THERE IS REASSURANCE IN THE STORY! If you have persistently and lovingly tried to give children wisdom and they haven't taken it, don't be hard on yourself. If God had trouble raising children, what makes you think it would be a piece of cake for you?

On being vegetarian, vegetarianism and ecosystem!

Last week, one of my supervisors here in our office received a mail from PETA. It was a couple of photos showing young actress Yasmien Kurdi encouraging everyone to go vegetarian by not eating chicken and other meat. One of the photos was showing Kurdi inside a chicken cage implying "try to relate to who is on your plate".

Incidentally, yesterday, I was browsing my twitter page when I found a message by jehzlau sharing a link on Yasmien Kurdi's going vegetarian photos. Now this gave me an indication or a trigger to write something on this vegetarianism thingie, so that people would know what my insights or side on this topic. By the way, Yasmien Kurdi is a young star in the Philippines if you may want to know.

What is vegetarianism?
Vegetarianism is the practice of a diet that excludes meat, fish and shellfish, poultry and other by-products of them. There are several variants of the diet, some of which also exclude eggs and/or some products produced from animal labor such as dairy products and honey. (Source.)
The said photos of Yasmien Kurdi going vegetarian were posted on this blog. They are the campaign pictures of Yasmien Kurdi for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals or PETA. The said campaign is against eating chicken and other meat and also against cruelty to animals. And so, I wrote my comments on that said blog entry, because I think I have to make my stand. In case, you can't find my comments anymore, below are what I have wrote, but before that, the comment that the other reader has written:

A certain Miko B said;
Every living thing has it’s place in the world. Sorry, but chickens are here to be eaten. Vegetarians might not like it, but it’s true. We all have to kill something to survive. Some people choose animals, some people choose plants. Just because plants don’t look at you with cute cuddly eyes doesn’t mean they don’t feel pain when they’re killed. And yeah, every time you grow vegetables and fruits, you kill small little animals when you till the ground. Sure, don’t eat animals for health reasons, but if you’re choosing not to because of “cruelty”, then how can cruelty to plants be ever defensible? Like I said, to survive, we always have to kill something. Plants or animals, it’s still killing. It’s still murder.

And now, here's what I said (in full text) on that blog entry's comment page:
hey! i have nothing against vegetarian people, vegetarianism and cruelty to animals… but the truth is, every living creatures, plants and animals, under the food chain has a role to play in this complicated life called the ecosystem…

when people don’t eat meat, the thing is, they are competing against animals who eat only vegetables or those called herbivores… in the end, if these vegetarians succeeded, herbivore animals cannot sustain life anymore because all of the vegetables have already been eaten by vegetarians…

PETA should remember that we people are included in this “circle of life” thingie… where every member included in the so-called circle affects one another… and oh, there is also this term called “survival of fittest” where people and animals compete for food… poor herbivores… they are no match for people…

it’s not that i don’t eat vegetables, I eat vegetables, but of course, I also eat meat!

So, i must agree with Miko B with his comment! It’s not really condemning vegetarians about their actions on cruelty to animals or how hypocrisy is put into this manner… it’s how people must know that we are all here on earth to survive… and eating chicken or any meat in particular, is just one of the many things that we can do to live and to survive!

Whew! long comment.. very much affected! I am going to repost this comment on my blog! hahahha!

So what do you think? Are my comments for real? I mean, being a science major (I took up a science course in college...), I have to take a stand that vegetarianism has its pros and cons, and whatever they are, somebody inside the food chain will suffer and the ecosystem will not be balanced anymore!

What do you think of this? Do you agree with me? Please give me your insights and your thoughts on vegetarianism, because I already posted mine! Hehehe... and oh, I must repeat, this is not about condemning PETA's campaign against cruelty to animals, eating animal meats or anything. This is just a simple explanation on what will happen when the food chain and the balance of the ecosystem is destroyed!

Just tell me your thoughts by writing your comments on the comment section below. We all must have a stand on this. It is not agreeing on the cruelty to animals or something. This is something that people should know! (For PETA's article on Yasmien Kurdi, you may click here.) Thank you for reading!

How to secure your internet banking transactions?

A few days ago, BPI Magazine, the official newsletter of BPI Express Online, sent me an email about how to secure your internet banking transactions. As you may want to know, I am subscribed to their online newsletter to inform me on the latest happenings on their website and whatever perks and freebies awaits me. In this way, I am aware on everything about the Bank of Philippine Islands (BPI). Below is the email that was sent to me and it is worthy of information dissemination. But before that, a little information on internet banking tansactions.

Internet banking transactions is the easiest and fastest ways to pay bills without leaving your home. All you have to do is log-on to a website, click a button to pay your bill/s, and your done! You don't even have to worry about traffic and long queues when paying! It is really a convenient way to pay without the hassle.

Here are a few tips to ensure the security of your internet banking transactions:

1. Do not click on web links embedded in emails or pop-ups in unfamiliar web sites. These may lead to malicious web sites designed to trick you into revealing personal and financial information.

2. Be skeptical of unsolicited e-mails, especially those that concern personal / account information. Delete suspicious emails or email attachments without opening them, even if they seem to have originated from someone you know.

3. Install the latest patches on your operating system, web browser, and anti-virus programs to safeguard your computer from attacks. Securely manage your password by:
• Using a password that is easy for you to remember but hard for others to guess.
• Keeping your password confidential at all times by not writing it down or divulging to anyone.
• Disabling the "save and remember the password" browser feature.
• Changing of your password if you think it has been compromised.

By following all the steps above, you can be assured of the safeguarding of your personal banking accounts and other personal information. Different banks all over the world always remind their clients to beware of phishing activities. Getting personal information and password is a kind of phishing activity.

What's in store for 2009 on TYC!

Last year, I posted a review of the year that was 2007 and my goals for the year 2008. Like any other blogs out there, TYC is also giving its readers on what's in store for them this 2009! To start with my new year of blogging, I changed my blog's theme template. The letters are now bigger and easier to read. But of course, you will only notice this when you are a regular reader of my blog.

It's been like what, almost two weeks when I last left the computer monitor. I really miss blogging a lot that's why I'm blogging like hell today! Hehehe. Anyway, before I give on what are the things that you can expect from this blog this 2009, I will give you a brief review on what had happened on my set goals for this blog last year. Here are the results:

• Attract more readers to visit my blog by writing interesting articles and stories.
Now, this is a check for me because I managed to write 155 blog entries last 2008 as compared to my 72 blog entries on 2007 in terms of number of articles written. That's more than twice blog entries than 2007! In terms of the number of readers, I can say that I have attracted more readers last year than the year before that. Just see the picture below to prove the numbers. The blue line represents 2008 while the green one is 2007. And oh, yes... my highest visitor is only around 400! hahaha...! Just click on the image for better viewing!

• Increase the number of my feed subscriptions. Check again! My feedburner counter says that it is currently at above 60. Believe me, it was only 12 when I was blogging for almost a year already! hahaha.. I'm glad it had increased! I hope I can reach the 300 mark this year!

• I want to experience how it feels like to hold a paycheck from google. Nope, this is a cross. I must be a living proof that money isn't everything when it comes to blogging! Hahaha... Still hoping for them, BIGTIME!

• I want to increase my pagerank from PR3 to PR5 or PR7! Definitely not happening! My google pagerank is still PR3! Aaaaww!

As for my up and coming last year, there are those I didn't manage to pursue like the e-novels and more poetries. I don't know, maybe it is better to write entertainment-related blog entries than to write a poem! Hahaha... But I will definitely write some poetries here when I have the time.

What's in store?
And now, the much coveted what's in store on TYC for this year, 2009 is now being presented to you! What can my readers to expect this year? Here are some of my blogging goals this year:

• This year, I decided to review all my categories again and put 2 or 3 more categories. This is to have a chance for my previous entries to be sorted out accordingly. But what new categories are they? I have to think yet for a cool name for each, but one category simply features different websites and make some sort of a review. I love featuring websites, you know! Who knows! I might feature your blog or website! The other one, hmmm... I might give you a clue: ASIAN. Hahahaha...!

• I am also challenged of the fact that I know some little things about money, making money and everything money. So, I decided to have another category that will tackle money and everything in between. This in turn will re-categorize some of my money-related articles. This yet another cool category will feature some logical ways to make money not just make money online but real money in cold cash. Okay, maybe not cold cash, maybe just a few coins, but still it's money!

• This year, I will be soft-launching 2 or 3 more blogs. I still don't know yet. If I have a time on doing them so, I will. The first one is somewhat soft-launched already. If you are a very observant person, you would know what I mean. It's there. It's just there at the side! lols! The other two blogsites are teacher-related and a blogcomics perhaps in collaboration with a friend. Lets see what I can do. Hahhaha...

So there, my goals for this year's blogging success. I hope I can give you another year of more relevant and more interesting blog entries of different kinds. I hope I can do a 20/80 principle, but I just can't. Hahaha. Good luck to all of us and Happy Blogging! :D
