Home Cleaning For Kids: Simple Ways to Remove The Clutter

Cleaning can be a hard task to do. When things are all scattered around in your home or in your room, it is experiencing a "clutter". A cluttered home/room is an unorganized home/room. Sometimes when you want to start cleaning your cluttered home/room, it's really hard to know where to start the cleaning.

But there are simple ways to remove the clutter in your home or room. Soon after, you'll see that your home/room is as spic-and-span as before. Here are simple ways to remove the clutter in your home:

Home Cleaning Ideas for Kids

  • Dirty clothes should be put inside a laundry basket and not on top of bed or on the floor. If you have dirty clothes all over your room, and your room stinks already, you may asked your mother to buy you a laundry basket. You may also practice your hoops while putting the dirty clothes into the basket.
  • Scattered books can get dust that will make your books ugly. If you love reading books, you don't want to make your books ugly, right? You may ask your parents to provide a bookshelf and organize all your books there. You may also put a mattress on the floor or a reading table near the bookshelf and turn that place into a reading nook or a personal library. This way, you can have a place to study or read in your free time.
  • Unused toys and other items can be placed inside a big box with cover and be put under the bed or somewhere that seems to be organized such as the top of a cabinet, or under the cupboard. The toy box should have cover to prevent cockroaches lay their eggs on your toys. Cockroaches love smelly or dark areas where they can hide and lay eggs. If your toy box has a cover, you may prevent cockroaches from spreading. Not only that, you may also preserve the quality of your toys, especially if they are collectible ones.
  • As for clean clothes, they should not mixed up with the dirty ones. Clean clothes should be inside a clothes cabinet or inside a plastic box organizer with cover. Clean clothes should be organized and well-ironed. When your mother is using a fabric conditioner, having a covered plastic organized will preserved the fragrance of the clothes even longer.
  • And finally, shoes and slippers should not be kept in a closed cabinet. They should be put in an open cabinet where air can freely flow through. You can prevent smelly shoes and slippers if the cabinet is also near a sun-lit area. The sun may serve as deodorizer to the shoes and slippers which kills the germs on it.
So there. If you want to live a clean life inside your home or your room, you may follow the steps given above to become organized and free from clutter dilemma. Home cleaning is easy! I'll leave you with this video on how to remove your clutter from your home from a newscast on ABC's WCPO.

In 2009, I wrote a blog entry video tutorial on how to confuse an idiot. That blog entry I might say was one of the most commented blog entries here on my blog. However, I think I may have deleted that post already as I transfer here and there and everywhere. Fortunately, I have retrieved the video tutorial on how to confuse an idiot. If you haven't watched the video yet, you may watch it after the live streaming below to keep you busy.

Starting Up A Sari-Sari (Variety) Store Business

Condiments, juice drinks, milks, etc.
In my quest of looking for another source of income for my family, I initiated a home project that will help us support our everyday financial needs. A few months ago, I told my mother to set up a sari-sari (variety) store business in our home to keep us financially stable, somehow, or at least have a there's-a-money-at-hand status everyday. With the recent economy in the Philippines, having a retail outlet or a small store business is an opportunity that everyone should grab.

Before the sari-sari store business, the family's money-at-hand or income was never enough to cover all the expenses - tuition fees, monthly electric and water bills, everyday food consumption, grocery items such as soaps, detergents, toothpaste, etc., and other expenses such as medicine and unexpected payments. That's is why when a loan opportunity in our company came, I immediately grabbed it and loaned for an initial investment for the sari-sari store. It's a good thing that the payment terms and all the interests are being deducted in my monthly salary. Just a few days after the loan, and after buying all the grocery items that will be needed to setup our sari-sari store business, we finally had a soft opening of the store.

"Titanic" Trivia, Facts, and Figures

The 1997 most loved movie of all time, "Titanic" is going to be shown once again in movie theaters as it commemorates the 100 years since the majestic ship first set it sails to the freezing water of the Atlantic Ocean and ended in an unexpected tragedy. On April 15, 1912, the so-called unsinkable ship made headlines worldwide as the glory that was Titanic ended up at the bottom of the ocean.

On April 7, 2012, Saturday, James Cameron's movie the "Titanic" will be heard its horns once again in movie theaters worldwide, as it is re-released in three dimensional (3D) format. But before the re-sailing and commemoration of the tragedy that was Titanic begins, let me give you some historical trivia, facts, and figures about the ship Titanic. This article was provided to you by the research team of 20th Century Fox and the movie makers of the much-anticipated return of the movie Titanic.

"The tragedy of Titanic has assumed an almost mythic quality in our collective imagination," Titanic filmmaker James Cameron says. "But the passage of time has robbed it of its human face and vitality. I hope that Rose and Jack's relationship will be a kind of emotional lightning rod, if you will, allowing viewers to invest their minds and their hearts to make history come alive again."

Traveling on a ship physically designed to prevent them from ever meeting, third-class passenger Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio) and first-class passenger, Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet), have taken the ultimate risk -- to defy the oppressive social conventions of their time and fall in love.

In full 3D, “Titanic” will sail once again in theaters on April 7, 2012 (Black Saturday) across Philippine cinemas. Below are some important facts gathered to usher audience aboard the R.M.S. Titanic for the timeless, beloved classic love story of all time.
• R.M.S. stands for Royal Mail Steamer.
• Titanic was the second of three superliners constructed by White Star Line to ply the Atlantic .
• Titanic measured 882 feet, longer than the tallest skyscraper in New York at the time.
• The rudder alone, in excess of 101 tons, was heavier than Christopher Columbus’s Santa Maria.
• There were approximately 100,000 pounds of meat on board Titanic.
• There were enough lifeboats to accommodate only half of Titanic’s passengers.
• The top speed of Titanic was 23 knots.
• Titanic’s top first-class ticket price was $3,100 while the cost of a third-class ticket was $32
• To build Titanic in 1912 cost approximately $7.5 million.
• Shortly after she sailed on April 10, 1912, Titanic nearly collided with the liner New York while departing the docks, sparking concern about the ship’s safety and maneuverability.
• The first-class lounge was designed after the palace at Versailles.
• Titanic received numerous messages from other ships regarding icebergs in the vicinity.
• Titanic had 16 watertight compartments to reduce its risk of sinking. The iceberg ruptured 5 of the 16, enough to pull the liner into the freezing waters.

• Women and children in first-class and second-class were given priority in the lifeboats.
• The first lifeboat to be lowered had a capacity of 65 yet carried only 28.
• As Titanic sank, the band played on deck in an effort to calm passengers awaiting rescue.
• Crewmen blocked exits from the third-class area to prevent men from accessing the deck.
• Of the lifeboats lowered before Titanic sank, only one returned to pick up more passengers.
• Titanic broke in two shortly before completely sinking into the Atlantic.
• Even as the boat sank, many passengers still refused to believe the superliner could go under.
• After Titanic hit the iceberg, people were out on the decks playing with chunks of ice.
• A mysterious ship was reportedly spotted not far from Titanic, which never responded to her distress signals and steamed off into the night.
• The ocean liner Carpathia, responding to Titanic’s distress calls, arrived nearly two hours after Titanic had sunk.
• Sixty percent, or 199, of the first-class passengers were saved while only 25%, or 174, of the third-class passengers survived. Only 32% of all on board Titanic survived.

One of the more chilling facts about the actual sinking was that there were only enough lifeboats to handle barely half the passengers aboard – and the crew’s failure to fill the boats to capacity resulted in only a third of the passengers making it to safety. For the film, the production team was able to apply a layer of realism to this technically complex and heart-pounding sequence. The lifeboat davits -- the system of pulleys required to launch the vessels -- were constructed by the same company that built the davits for the actual Titanic.

“The Wellan Davit Company,” Cameron explained, “built our davits to their old plans. We literally had the very same piece of machinery that was used on Titanic to lower a lifeboat.”

Online Shopping: Pros and Cons

Shopping online are probably the most convenient way of shopping, but not as popular though as going straight to a mall. However, online shopping is somehow getting into hype these days. Just imagine, your items are a just a click away! All you need to do is sit in front of the computer, search for some reliable online shopping websites, and pay through your credit card. Sounds easy right?

Online shopping is easy, but looking for a reliable shopping websites is hard especially if it’s your first time. Buying an item online might be a huge risk for some. The photos of the items on some websites are might not be too reliable at all. The items shipped are sometimes not as good as in the photos. Handling of shipped items are also a problem, especially if these items are fragile.

The authenticity of the product might also become a problem. If you are not an experienced buyer, you can hardly distinguish an authentic item from an imitation. You'll never know if you are paying too much for a lower class item. To be sure of the authenticity of a certain product, look for it on the official website of the brand or brands that you are eyeing for. In buying luxury items, whether brand new or second hand, check the authenticity card or authenticity code of the item

Pinoy Christmas Shopping Guide to Awesomeness: The Major, Major Problems!

One basis of awesomeness is a person's ability to survive this season’s one of the most, if not, the most stressful activities—Christmas shopping! Everybody, young or old, male or female, or gay, bisexual, lesbian, or transgender, and filthy rich or poor, feels the pressure of buying gifts for their special someone (or sometimes even for not-so-special someone). Why feel pressured? Well, in case you haven’t heard, Christmas is the time for giving. If you really don’t know that it is indeed a time to give and receive gifts, all I can say to you is, “Hey there, Grinch!”

For some, shopping is always a breeze. It is their way of relieving stress from work or from some other bad vibes in the environment. But for others, shopping is really a hassle not just it is a waste of their time, but also it can be considered as a very exhausting physical activity.

Writing tips from "William Forrester"

It was last Saturday when I finally watched the movie "Finding Forrester" on TV5, a local channel here in the Philippines. I haven't watched the movie before that's why I'm so glad that TV5 had a very good selection of films. I love the movie because it gave some tips on writing, maybe because one of the characters was a writer himself.

Anyway, I watched the movie from the beginning, but unfortunately, I never finished the last ten minutes of it. I fell sleep on the sofa. Har har har. So, I had to ask my brother what happened at the end of the movie. But of course, I won't tell you because this is not a movie review for "Finding Forrester". Before the writing tips taken from the movie, here are some little information about the film.

"Finding Forrester" is the 2000 film about a teenager who befriends a reclusive writer, William Forrester, played by Sean Connery. William Forrester is a fictional character by the way. And that's it! And now for the writing tips from William Forrester himself.

The Crisis of Credit: Visualized!

Jonathan Jarvis, an L.A. based designer at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, made this very cool thesis work in the Media Design Program that he took. In this video, he beautifully explained in simple and plain English, how the credit crisis in the world started and affected each and everyone of us.

...creator Jonathan Jarvis “explores the use of new media to make sense of an increasingly complex world.” With these videos, he succeeds beautifully. In an increasingly chaotic media landscape, sometimes only a college student’s YouTube upload can make sense of anything. (Source.)

What's the IN business for this year?

Let's face it! The Philippine economy and the world financial status aren't that good right now. There are a lot of jobs being cut-off, the economy in every country is in recession, dollar markets are not that good anymore, and companies are shutting down here and there. So, what's next? Come to think of it, we all have our poverty deadline, right?

In these times of struggling economy, quitting your job isn't a good idea, really. But having another job or business is a good thing. It can help your financial status more stable, and perhaps, more secure in the long run. A lot of feng shui experts say, especially when new year comes, that the start of the year is always a good start to have your own business. I do agree in some parts, because a new year signifies a new start, and starting your own business gives a positive vibration.

Identification (ID) Cards as Bank Requirements!

The other day, I was talking about saving money for the future and compared two known and prominent banking institutions in the country, Banco de Oro (BDO) and Land Bank of the Philippines. I also tackled some information on initial deposits and maintaining balances for the said banks, which in turn, I find BDO as the more favorable. Today, I will tackle the most important bank requirement/s before opening a personal passbook savings account — the identification cards or IDs.

ID cards are the most important requirement a bank should ask from you before opening a personal passbook savings account. Aside from giving them a recent 1x1 or 2x2 photo or ID picture (which some banks does not even require), identification cards are always on top on their list when trying to open a savings account from any bank establishments or institutions. Listed below are some of the identification or ID cards a bank institution would ask before opening ANY savings account.

BDO vs LandBank: Saving Money for the Future!

Several months ago, I received my EON Cyber Account ATM card from Unionbank (Philippines). It was a personal savings account that I applied online in their website. It was a milestone move for me because I really wanted to save some money for myself. Aside from that, I wanted to use my Unionbank EON Cyber Account for future online transactions. If you don't know yet, EON Cyber Account can be used to apply for Paypal. Unfortunately, after months of struggling to my personal finances, I wasn't still able to save some money. Pity me. Huhuhu. Maybe because, everytime I needed some money, the Automated Teller Machine is just a breeze away. So the only options I have left is to look for bank establishment to help save money using a passbook instead of an ATM card.

BPI's Warning on Phishing Activities!

I really can't blog more often these days because of publication deadline, but I am here blogging on a semi-hiatus mode. I really can't find time to blog because of my schedules, but gladly, my everyday visitors are still the same. :P

Anyway, I received an email from Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) Express online (I am sure I was not the ONLY one who received it!), warning me on some possible Internet Phishing activities by unscrupulous Internet users, email spammers and hackers that might cause me lose everything that I have on my bank savings. The following is the actual email that was sent to me by BPI Express Online, but before that, let me tell you first a little information on what is phishing, actually.

According to wikipedia, "phishing is the criminally fraudulent process of attempting to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details, by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication." Phishing activities are usually done in emails. It mainly consists of a body of letter asking for usernames, passwords, date of birth and other banking history details.

Sometimes, it disguises itself as an email from the bank you are using. It may also consists of some link or links that asks for some verification of your account. Just a warning, if you received such emails with a link for verification, DO NOT EVEN ATTEMPT TO CLICK IT!!! It may get important information from your email such as login usernames from your other important accounts such as PayPal and of course passwords. These links will take you to a different website and can hack your email immediately! You don't want to experience that, do you?

Hackers usually targets email users who innocently don't know what they are doing. Once you fall for their trap, you might lose everything — corrupt file, acquire trojan virus in your hardware, lose precious email account and even lose money from your bank savings!

So here's the warning email from BPI Express Online, the one I use to check all of my credit card transactions. I am posting this to inform everyone that there is really a danger in Phishing and I think the public readers must know of it. The following are some of the warning signs that tells you you had just been PHISHED:

BPI 24/7 BANKING Express Advice: Warning on Phishing

Phishing e-mails are sent to trick you into revealing personal and financial information. We suggest that you use this short checklist to protect yourself against phishing attacks.

1. Begin your session by manually typing the web address of BPI into your browser. The official URL of BPI Express Online is http://www.bpiexpressonline.com/.

2. Avoid disclosing personal or account details via email or embedded link. Be skeptical of unsolicited e-mails, especially those that concern personal / account information. Delete suspicious emails or email attachments without opening them, even if they seem to have originated from someone you know.

3. Notify the sending company if you receive a suspicious email. For suspicious transactions that claim to have originated from BPI, you may contact us directly through Express Phone 89-100 or email us at expressonline@bpi.com.ph.

4. Check the security certificate of the web page.

Before entering personal or account information into a site, make sure it is secure. In Internet Explorer, you can do this by checking the yellow lock on the status bar. A closed lock is an indication of an encrypted site.

If you think you may have responded to a suspicious email, change your password for Express Online as soon as possible. To change your password, login to www.bpiexpressonline.com and go to Account Maintenance --> Change Password.

BPI will never send you an e-mail asking for information on your username and password. The Bank's websites are protected by a 128-bit SSL encryption and Verisign's Security Certificate.

So, if you are banking on BPI Express Online, you might want to know of this information. If you are not banking on them, ask the customer service hotline of your bank to inform you of such phishing activities.

For BPI Clients: For more information, just call 89-100.

Preventing a Writer's Block

Believe it or not, I was having a difficult time typing this blog entry because I am suffering from what writer's called it a writer's block. But what is a writer's block? A writer's block is an event in the life of a writer, or a blogger where he/she has already used up his/her creative juices. Most writers take this as a dilemma, especially those in freelance writing because when a writer loses all his/her creative stuffs inside his/her mind, he/she will lose a means of living.

I am very much sure a lot of bloggers and writers also suffer from this once in a blue moon dilemma, so here I am, trying to type freely as I could and just think of what my fingers would do to type and give you some tips on how to prevent a writer's block. Okay, enough of the introduction, without further ado, I present to you Yatot's guide to prevent a writer's block:

How to Save the Earth in Simple Ways?

My almost two years of work here in the office lets me write a section in our science magazine that tackles about the environment. The section is called "Earth Trustee", a one-page article that focuses on tips on how to improve the surroundings, poems about the Earth, and talks about different environmental issues.

Our magazine, the S&T Digest Science Magazine, is a supplementary reading material for both elementary and high school students. It is distributed to our clients in the different schools here in the Philippines. Apparently, our science magazine has a lot of readers, so I am confident that whatever environmental topics I wrote in the Earth Trustee section of our magazine, I know, the message is clear to all of them — that taking care of our environment is the best thing that you can do for our planet.

How to Save the Earth in Simple Ways?

What if, you have the power to save the Earth in simple ways, what will you do? The Earth is getting older everyday; and the things that we do changed the Earth's condition. Drought, unexplained heat, lack of rainfall, melting ice — these are the cause of man's fast-paced lives.

In support to help our planet, the Earth Trustee gives some helpful advice to save our planet even in the smallest way possible. Here are some of them:

• Keep candy wrappers in pockets until you reach the nearest trash can. Okay, your munching on your favorite chocolate bar while riding in a bus. The bus has no trash can inside. What will you do? Throw your chocolate wrapper outside the bus' window? Think again! Throwing garbage anywhere could be harmful for you. Yes, it's just a piece of chocolate wrapper. But if a lot people throw their pieces of wrappers anywhere, it could add up into a mountain of wrappers. You don't want to happen that do you?

• Walk or ride a bicycle whenever possible. Walking and/or riding a bicycle can show simple ways of doing exercise. They can help you maintain your body weight by slowly burning fats in the body when done, regularly. Aside from that, walking and/or riding a bike save fuel that becomes harmful gases in the atmosphere causing air pollution. Air pollution can cause lung cancers and other respiratory diseases like cough, asthma, and tubercolosis. If you are just going to the nearest store to buy groceries, it is better to walk and/or ride a bike because you know you are helping the Earth to have clean air and at the same time, you are making yourself healthy! Think about it!

• Bury biodegradable materials. Biodegradable materials are things or products that have the ability of breaking down into smaller pieces — a process called decomposition. So, instead of burning fallen leaves at your backyard, try to bury them along with other biodegradable materials such as peelings of fruits and vegetables and animal manures to make a compost pit. Decomposed materials can be used as natural fertilizers to plants.

• Reduce, reuse and recycle. You might have heard these a thousand times, but reducing, reusing and recycling materials are still one of the best ways to save the Earth! You reduce garbage by segregation, or separating biodegradables to non-biodegradables. Biodegradables can be made into a compost as discussed. Non-biodegradables such as plastic bottles and tin cans can be bought by recycling plants and junk yards. Never reuse plastic bottles and tin cans because it might cause different illnesses in the future. Reuse glass bottles instead of plastic bottles.

• Turn off appliances when not in used. When your mother told you to turn off the electric fan because the weather is fair enough to have cool breeze, then you must follow her. This way, you can save lots of energy that is used as electricity. Some electricity is brought by water, coal or fuel. Just imagine how much of these you can save just by turning off the electric fan? Besides, electric fan motors releases heat, that may contribute to the change in atmosphere.

There are still a lot of simple ways to save the Earth! Can you think of one? Just be sure that while doing these small things, you must think BIG and do these things with all your heart!
