Featured Recipe: Beef Picadillo!
I suddenly remembered this featured recipe for today, the beef picadillo, simply because I was craving for it like right now. Hehehe... It's been several months now since I last ate this dish. I think I am going to cook this beef recipe later.
According to wikipedia, picadillo is a dish mainly consisting of sautéed ground beef and originated from Latin American countries. The filling in tacos is a good example. It can also become a favorite viand in rice meals.
When the Spaniards choose to conquer the Philippines, I guess it is one of the foods that they brought in, coming from other countries that they had invaded. Well, what can I say, I guess "well-done" for my Spaniard friends!
Ingredients:
1/2 kilo ground beef
small (250g) can tomato sauce
3 cloves of garlic, chopped
1 medium-sized onion, chopped
3 red tomatoes, chopped
1 small green bell pepper, chopped
1 small carrot, cut into small pieces
100 g green peas
1 medium-sized potato, cut into small cube pieces
soy sauce
2 kalamansi
1/2 cup water
cooking oil
salt and pepper
1/2 tsp sugar
How to Cook:
1) Marinate ground beef in soy sauce, kalamansi and pepper. Set aside and marinade for at least 30 minutes while preparing the other ingredients.
2) Sauté garlic, onion and tomatoes. Add in the ground beef and let it boil for a while (sangkutsa) until the flavor and aroma of beef extracts (about 7 minutes). Pour in the tomato sauce and let it boil for 3 minutes. Add in 1/2 cup of water and bring to a boil for 25-30 minutes. Don't forget to cover it.
3) Check if the beef is already tender, if not, add a little bit more of water and let it simmer for a little while. Put in the potatoes, green peas, carrots and green bell pepper. Add in 1/2 tsp of sugar and salt and pepper to taste. Simmer until sauce thickens.
:: Makes 5-6 servings. Good partner of tacos, quesadillas and rice.
