"World War Z" Movie Review

In an attempt to have a zombie-apocalyptic horror genre movie or series such as that of the popular TV show, The Walking Dead from AMC and movies such as Zombieland, Resident Evil, I am Legend, or Warm Bodies, the Brad Pitt starrer movie, World War Z delivered a much more tamed but has less laid-back plot that just-a-few-more-movies-and-you-know-this-will-be-a-new-trend-in-Hollywood kind of thing. I think, Brad Pitt's character Gerry Lane character is a little weak for a muscular buff such as Brad Pitt himself. Well, you can't blame Gerry Lane for having a gullible-like character because he was somehow blackmailed to do his task in exchange for the safety of his family.

The movie is loosely based on the novel by Max Brooks entitled World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War. The Brad Pitt movie took on the liberty to manipulate or perhaps changed that landscape that is a zombie-apocalypse movie. If I can describe World War Z using several films, it is more of a "I am Legend," and less of a "Resident Evil," not even close to that, and perhaps with a little bit of "Bourne Identity" series for intense action scenes, adrenaline thrill and excitement, and investigating plot! Hehehe!

The overall feel of the movie "World War Z" is something that you know there are zombies out there, but as you watch the film, you will know that having zombies on the streets are just the secondary problem. The main goal of the protagonist that is Brad Pitt is to find a cure or perhaps an antidote to prevent the spread of the virus or rabies that infected most of the people, making them an undead. Several incidents led Gerry (Pitt) to prove his theories regarding this unfortunate circumstances that might wiped out the entire human race.

The movie might be lacking some dramas despite the zombie-apocalyptic genre. Daryl Dixon's (Norman Reedus) melodramatic no-choice killing of his brother Merle (Michael Rooker) in the AMC's The Walking Dead could be a good reference to this drama anthology thing. I guess the husband and wife drama just doesn't work for me, anymore, or perhaps only in this attempt.

"World War Z" is still showing in some movie theatres in the Philippines. The DVD release of the movie is coming out soon. Better watch out for that!
