At first, I was intrigued by the movie trailer of "This Means War" when I saw it in movie theaters during one of the movie premiere nights that I had attended courtesy of 20th Century Fox. So, I thought to myself, this movie is just another spy movie like one of those mentioned above — men in their black suits, loaded with guns and gadgets, and packed with awesome combat skills to make it more realistic. Until I saw the forever young, Reese Witherspoon, I said, whut? This movie has just been legally-blondzoned!
"This Means War" summary/synopsis/plot
FDR (Chris Pine) and Tuck (Tom Hardy) are childhood bestfriends and CIA's most notorious agent partners. They are the best agents CIA can have. They are the perfect tandem for every mission of the CIA.
When a woman named Lauren Scott (Reese Witherspoon) intertwined in their lives, the agents went crazy over her and did everything to win her heart. The two bestfriend agents made a pack that whoever wins the girl will give way to the feelings of the other. In between making Lauren crazy over them, the two agents also have a mission to capture their most notorious criminal assignment ever.
"This Means War" Movie Review
The plot may have been used several times before — two guys try to win the heart of a girl by getting even with each other — and probably predictable in most of the scenes, but putting the spy thingies in it, really made the movie much more awesome!
"This Means War" is a movie that goes a little bit off of the spy movie genre. Knowing that Reese Witherspoon, Tom Hardy, and Chris Pine are in it, the movie can probably stand on its own even with only three people/characters are the main focus of the story. Perhaps, if these three Hollywood superstars are in another movie, even if it is not a spy-related one, I would still watch that movie because the chemistry of these three Hollywood superstars simply works!
The movie's central story only revolves on how the two agents fight for the girl/woman that they really like and how they show it in the most awesome way ever! The fight for the real villain (the real reason why the two agents are called special CIA agents posing as a travel agent and a ship captain) are just secondary in the plot. This made the movie "This Means War" becomes way off to the spy movie genre. But who cares about that? Just seeing the cuteness of Reese Witherspoon, legally-blond style, and her chemistry with equally fine actors Chris Pine and Tom Hardy on the big screen, plus a dash of witty lines, tactics, and antics, "This Means War" is the perfect romantic-action comedy film for 2012!
"This Means War" might be aiming that this is a spy-related movie, but believe me, it's not! It's more of a chick flick that any man can relate to! Men who are into action-packed thrill and adventure and women who are into some romantic-comedy flicks can understand each other's feelings after watching this film!
If you like the big blue eyes of Chris Pine, or you are fond of the British accent of Tom Hardy, or perhaps the witty antics and cuteness of Reese Witherspoon on the big screen, "This Means War" is the movie to watch for a post-Valentines movie date with your significant other. You'll laugh, you'll be thrilled, you'll fall in love, and perhaps, you'll learn some life's lesson while watching the movie! "This Means War" is showing in Philippine theaters on February 22, 2012, so don't fail to miss it in theaters!
