Beware: YM scammer tagailog23 strikes again!

Last friday, as I waited for my office hours to end, a familiar online buddy suddenly popped up its Yahoo! Messenger (YM) window and talked to me. It was tagailog23... a YM ID of my online buddy from Canada, Saturn. But here's the twist — Saturn's YM id was hacked months ago by a certain Filipino hacker! He, the hacker, uses Saturn's old YM id to scam people. Here's the story:

It was several months ago when Saturn's YM id (and email as well) was hacked by a certain Filipino hacker who is now swarming the internet and contacting every person who is (or was) in Saturn's friend's list. He, the hacker, have this modus operandi of messaging each person in Saturn's list asking for 30 pieces of globe cards worth Php 500 (five hundred pesos) each or Php 15,000 worth of money!

According to Saturn:

The hacker goes online using a hacked account and poses as he/she is the actual user. He/she sends messages to everyone in the hacked account’s contact list and asks where he/she is by asking “ASAN KA?” (Where are you?). If the recipient answers back and states that he/she lives outside of the Philippines, the hacker will then invite the contacts to click on a particular “link” to leech their personal login info, but posing as if the hacker has some vacation pictures to show. Presumably using the Yahoo Photos website (which is non-existent.) Presumably, if the potential victim clicks the link, their personal info is exposed to the hacker without the victim knowing.

When this blog post of Saturn was published in his blog (find out how his Aunt's friend had fallen for this trap, here!), I already talked to the person using his account about he asking me to give him load cards. He said that I'll just buy some cards, scratch them one by one, and then give him the number codes. It's that easy! It's my first time that I felt weird talking to him (I thought first he was Saturn). Luckily, I don't have that much sum of money! Hahahaha!

And then, months later, it was almost the end of March when YM id tagailog23 struck back! Here's our conversation:

tagailog23: BUZZ!!! musta n? (How are you?)
(tagailog23 appears to be offline. He or she will receive your messages after signing in)
Me: ei, buti naman (Hey, I am okay!)

tagailog23: wer ka now? (Where are you now? — the same dialogue, huh?)
Me: sa office (in the office)

tagailog23: buti naman, pde b favor? (Great. Can I ask a favor?)
Me: ok wat (Okay, what?)

tagailog23: lam mo b ung roaMING (Do you know roaming?)
Me: hindi e (nope, hahahaha... fooled you! I know what roaming means!)

tagailog23: KC GANITO... PABIBILI SNA AKO SAU NG LOAD 30PCS (Here's how it goes... I'll ask you to buy me (card) load, 30 pieces)
Me: tapos (and then... innocently, hahhahha)

tagailog23: bibilin kc skin bawat isa ng 25usd, pabibili sna ako sau tpus papadala ko sau 600usd, tubo k 6thou (somebody will buy from me worth $25, I'll just ask you to buy me (some load cards) and then I'll pay $600, you'll earn Php 6,000!)
Me: paano ko ipapadala? (How will I send to you?)

tagailog23: itype mo n lng dito tpus susulat ko n lng (Just type-in (the number codes) here and then I will just write them down.)
Me: e nasa office nga ako e... paano mo naman ipapadala ung pera? (I'm in the office right now... How will you send me the money?)

tagailog23: papadala ko sau thru western union...ano matutulungan mo b ako?... syang kc ung tubo (I'll send it to you through Western Union... What? Are you going to help me? I am just concerned about the profit...)
Me: hmmm... e di ipadala mo na... kukunin ko mamaya (Hmmm... Just send it (the money).. I'll just get it later (to buy you card loads))

tagailog23: tom ko pa mapapadala after ng payments (I'll send the payments tomorrow.)
Me: hmmm

tagailog23: ano (What?)
Me: wait lang (Wait.)

tagailog23: matutulungan mo m ako? (Can you help me (with this)?)
Me: ipapadala ko n lng through LBC lahat ng mga cards... mamaya pa kasi ako makakabili, paglabas ko ng office e (I'll just send you the cards through LBC... I can buy you later after the office.) I am actually outsmarting him to give me his home address... too bad, he did fall for that! Hahaha

tagailog23: now kc kelangan... ba pde k muna sumaglit (I badly needed it right now... I hope you can drop-by for a while (somewhere))
Me: bukas ng mga tanghali nandyan na yan sa inyo (Tomorrow at noon the package will be at your doorstep.)

tagailog23: syang kc nug tubo... tom p (I was just thinking about the profit (that you will earn)... Tomorrow?
Me: kahit wala ng tubo... ok lng (Even if I don't earn something from it... it's okay!)

tagailog23: itype mo n lng dito kc now nila kelangan (Just type-in (the number codes) here because I needed it right now!)
Me: e hindi nga ako makakalabas (I really can't get out of the office!)

tagailog23: kahit mamaya pde b? (Even later?)
Me: wala na ako sa office nun, itext ko n lng sau ung mga PIN ng cellcards (I am not in the office by that time... I'll just text to you the PIN of the cellcards.)

tagailog23: itype mo n lng pin dito tapus isusulat ko n lng (Just type the PIN here then I will write it down.)
Me: ngek... eh hindi pa nga ako makakaalis ng office... hindi ka din makulit (Are you kidding me? I really can't go out in the office (right now)... you are so stubborn.)

tagailog23: sa tingin mo mga wat tym mya? kc pra msavi koi s (What time later, so that I can tell you?)
Me: sabi ko nga sau LBC ko n lng e... mas mabilis un... paglabas ko kasi bukas pa ung LBC (I told you before that I will just send them through LBC... it is faster... When I go out in the office, LBC is still open.)

tagailog23: now kc kelangan eh (I badly needed it now.)
Me: paulit-ulit... hindi nga pwede ngaun (I told you I can't.)

tagailog23: kya nga po... wat tym b pde?... pra alam ko (That's why I am asking you what time, so that I would know!)
Me: mga 6.30... pero pauwi na ako nun... hindi ako nakaYM... pero mga 7pm baka online na ulit ako... madali lng naman ang byahe e (Around 6:30 PM... but I am on my way home by that time... I am not logged in here at YM... but around 7:00 PM, maybe I am already online again... The way from the office to our house is just a matter of time.)

tagailog23: ganun b... cge w8 n lng... basta mgym k mamaya... w8 kita (Ah.. okay... I'll wait for you... don't forget to log in later... I'll wait for you.)
Me: ok

tagailog23: alis muna ako... basta messge u n lng ako mya ha... lam ko kaw lng makakatulong skin... tn'x ulet (I'll go first... just message me if you already returned... I know you are the only one that can help me.)
Me: hanggang kailan ka manloloko ng tao! ULOL mo! (Until how long will you take advantage on people... #@%&**!^@) I am a bit angry by this time. Hahahha...

And so, there goes our YM conversation with tagailog23. Readers of this blog... be warned... and be informed... I hope this will serve as a warning for all us. Do you have the same experience as me in a YM conversation? Have you been scammed? Tell me your experience/s now and write a comment... so that everyone should be informed as well!

gahhh..im like totally pissed at this hacker dude, seriously...dammit.

anyways, T_T yeah thanks for the concern of posting about it. The thing is I did emailed Yahoo several times and they won't let me through the wire on recovering my account. So it came to the point that I decided to ignore it since I needed to focus on school (yeah bad excuse lol).

But yeah I can't recover my tagailog23 account. I was more pissed bec. The email add has a sentimental value when I created it --(Because it was inspired from my idol/fav pinoy manga artist Taga-ilog of the defunct Culture Crash Comics and because it was Junior High that I made some long-life friends there.)

But anyways to cut it short since I'm talking too much here, we may not do anything about it but we can prevent the scamming thing going on by spreading the word, and kudos to u Yatot and Allen for this. I really appreciated it. Thank u.
